Congressman Carnahan Condemns the Attack on U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo

United States Congressman Russ Carnahan (D-MO), the Co-Chair of the Congressional Caucus on Bosnia, Ranking Member of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, and the founder and co-chair of the American Engagement Caucus issued a statement on October 28, 2011, condemning the attack on the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - In response to reports that a gunman opened fire today on the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo, U.S. Rep. Russ Carnahan (MO-3) issued the following statement:

"I strongly condemn the act of violence outside the U.S. Embassy in Sarajevo when a gunman opened fire today on the Embassy. I commend the Bosnian police for their apprehension of the gunman, and hope that he will be swiftly brought to justice.  Fortunately, no Americans were hurt in the attack."

During a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing yesterday with Secretary of State Clinton, Carnahan raised concerns about the current political stalemate in Bosnia, and the need to help Bosnia make much needed progress:

'Moving forward, we need to work with our international partners on our common goals to prevent any backslide in this process,"Carnahan said.

BAACBH has strongly condemned the aforementioned act of violence and is outraged and deeply saddened by this attack. We are profoundly grateful to Congressman Carnahan for his statement and his continued steadfast support of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosnian-Americans.
